Easy Tips For First-Time Flossers

Posted on 4/25/2022 by Fariba Mutschler
Easy Tips For First-Time FlossersOne of the important things that a kid should learn at a young age is flossing and brushing. While many kids can easily learn how to brush, flossing is particularly a problem for them. It is extremely crucial for your kid to floss as it helps promote his or her oral health. However, it is not a skill they can develop on their own. It takes time and practice to learn how to floss adequately. It is, for this reason, parents should show their little ones the right way to floss starting from an early age, even before they get their regular dental checkups.

Develop a Flossing Routine Early

Once the teeth of a child grow and touch each other, it is time to start flossing. Make sure the kid flosses at least once every day, specifically before bedtime. If the kids don't remove food particles from the mouth before going to bed, the food debris will have all night period to damage the teeth of the kid. Bear in mind that your little one will require a good deal of help with flossing until they attain the age of six or seven. You will find that many toddlers and preschoolers are unable to floss adequately on their own. That being said, practice makes perfect.

Make Flossing Fun

Many kids don't love flossing, they find it too difficult and they will try to avoid it. However, you can make it fun by being creative and encouraging them to floss. Get them flossers that are easy to use or try to introduce water flossers. Reward them when they attempt flossing so that they keep on trying and practicing. You can consider flossing together with them so that they can see how you do it. Create mock flossing events to make the task more fun. My daughter was a little nervous to have her dental work done but everyone in the office was super friendly and very reassuring and that helped her nervousness go away. Thanks for the excellent dental experience. ~ Lilyana G.
