How to Make Learning to Brush a Little Easier for Your Kids

How to Make Learning to Brush a Little Easier for Your KidsWe know it's important to brush our teeth so plaque doesn't build up causing tooth decay or gum disease. However, when it comes to getting children to brush their teeth twice a day for two minutes each time, it's a bit trickier. Fortunately, there are a few things you can do though.

How to Make it Easier for Your Children to Brush Their Teeth

Make sure you start brushing your child's teeth as soon as they get their first teeth. Start by using your finger, then work your way up to using a toothbrush. As you do so, consider using a vibrating toothbrush that's easy for them to use.

Of course, this doesn't mean that you should be with your child when they're brushing their teeth. Instead, you should be there in front of the mirror brushing your teeth with your child until they're around 7-years-old.

Besides offering your child an electric toothbrush, also offer them some other options as well. There are so many things available today to help them make brushing their teeth fun (e.g. Superhero designs, toothbrush holders that suction to your bathroom mirror, toothbrushes connected to gaming apps, milder toothpaste flavors, flashing lights in toothbrushes). Offering them these options makes it more fun for them to brush their teeth.

Of course, you also need to make sure that you bring your child into our office on a regular basis so we can check up on how good of a job they're doing at brushing their teeth. We'll also determine if your child needs a fluoride treatment to help their teeth continue growing well and if they do, we can give them one.

If you don't already have an appointment for this, make sure that you give us a call so we can set one up for you today.

My daughter was a little nervous to have her dental work done but everyone in the office was super friendly and very reassuring and that helped her nervousness go away. Thanks for the excellent dental experience. ~ Lilyana G.
