|Children who are teething are often cranky, drooling, and crying, which is why parents are continuously trying to find products that will help make the teething stage bearable not only for their kids but for them as well.
Teething jewelry, particularly necklaces, had been a huge hit for some time because it promises to effectively ease teething pains and even control drooling by simply letting the child wear the necklace.
Unfortunately, there is no study or research to support the claims and instead of providing help, the necklace increases the risk of strangulation and choking among kids who wear it.
Effective and Safer Ways to Soothe a Teething Child
It is obvious at the onset that teething necklaces will be problematic considering that its very concept is not in accordance with the recommendations of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
AAP warned that little children should not wear any jewelry because they can choke on the beads and die from suffocation.
Instead of relying on unproven, and even risky, methods of soothing your child's teething pains, it is best that you abide by simple, yet effective, practices such as twisted and frozen damp washcloth that your toddler can chew on.
Gnawing on cold things can help in reducing inflammation of the gums and inducing numbness to dull the pain. You can also wash your hands and use your fingers to massage your baby's gums as well.
Rubber and plastic chew toys can also be helpful, but you have to make sure that they are made from safe and non-toxic materials.
If your baby remains fussy and if the pain appears to be too severe even after the simple soothing solutions described above, you can visit us immediately, so we can explore and discuss other suitable remedies or even medication that will best help your child. Contact us for an appointment today.
