![]() Children are at a tender age where they imitate whatever older family members do.
It is also during this crucial stage where they develop habits that they bring to adulthood. Therefore, it is your duty to introduce to your kids the habit of brushing and flossing. There is no better way of teaching your kids by actually demonstrating it to them, and assisting and correcting them as necessary. In other words, it is most beneficial if you develop the habit of brushing and flossing together with your child. How Proper Brushing and Flossing Can Benefit Your ChildBrushing should be done at least twice a day, advisably 30 minutes after each meal. Choose a toothbrush with soft bristles, since children have more sensitive teeth and gums. An abrasive, hard-bristled brush can hurt and consequently discourage them from brushing. Typically, but not generally, parents can let their kids brush unsupervised when they reach six or eight years of age. However, while they are old enough to know how to spit and not to swallow toothpaste, they may still occasionally miss brushing some areas in their mouth. Thus, parents should still make a thorough inspection after each brushing. Once teeth have emerged next to each other, your child can start flossing once a day, at the least. Tiny food particles and bacterial plaque can get lodged in between teeth. Teaching your kid to floss properly will spare him from nasty tooth decay, halitosis and gum disease. And do teach him to brush his tongue to prevent bacterial plaque build-up. Help your child develop lifelong habits for better oral health. Start by inculcating good habits of brushing and flossing preferably after his first birthday, or six months after his first tooth emerges. A dental checkup every six months is also a healthy routine to develop. Come visit us now and let your child have a positive, fun and encouraging experience with our child friendly dentist.
