![]() Taking your child to the dentist is a habit you should establish early on in his or her life. But how early, exactly, should you begin the visits to the dentist?
Many parents, unsure of what to do, actually end up putting off the first visit until the child is almost 2 years old-far too late for a first dental visit. When is the Best Time? Most experts recommend that you take your child in for his or her first dental visit by age 1 or within 6 months of when the first tooth erupts. Given that most children get their first tooth around 6 months of age, this will usually be the same (approximate) age, whether you use the 1st birthday or 6 months after the first tooth schedule. However, if your child does not get his or her first tooth at 6 months of age, you should simply choose the earlier of 1 year of age or 6 months after the first tooth comes in. This will help to ensure that we are able to examine the child and gauge his or her dental health early enough to detect any issues. If we see a child whose tooth erupted early or late, we may do some looking just to be sure that his or her dental development will progress normally. Sometimes, there may be teeth lurking below the gum tissue-especially in the case of children whose first tooth erupted late. We Are Here for You!
