![]() Children are often finicky eaters. This is normal, and is usually outgrown by the time they reach their teens. However, during those formative years, getting the right amount and types of nutrients into their diet can be tricky.
The body, including the bones, teeth, and all organs, need a wide range of nutrients to be healthy. Vitamins can help, but they can only do so much. Sometimes it takes an imaginative mind to get those extra nutrients to show up where kids won't refuse to eat them. Where You Can Squeeze In Extra NutrientsConsider what your child eats for breakfast. Do they prefer cereal? If so, vary the cereals. Have them eat cold cereals some days, and hot cereals on others. You can easily add a touch of their favorite fruits to cover any new flavors that may just happen to show up in their oats or cream of wheat. Does your child like pasta and sauce? If so, change up what sauce offerings you provide. Some days, make a traditional spaghetti sauce and blend any new vegetables up so they cannot be picked out. Other days, provide a meat sauce (if your child likes meat) with different protein options for them to try. The more foods you introduce them to now, the more likely they are to be willing to try things later on. If you can convince your child to try their current favorites just with a slight change, you can likely improve their nutritional content exponentially. This will help them grow stronger, be healthier, and develop better than if they only eat the same handful of foods for the next five years. If you need help coming up with other ways of adding more nutrients into your child's diet, ask their pediatric dentist for advice.
