What Your Kids See When You Go to the Dentist
When you bring your child with you to the dentist's office, they see what the dentist does. They get to watch the dentist clean and examine your mouth, and see that it doesn't hurt. Children pick up on your nerves if you have some, so make sure you bring them with when you are confident that they will have a positive experience.
You may even notice that your child has some questions during the appointment. It is a good idea to let them start asking those questions, even if it is just one or two at a time. That way, they start to get a positive relationship going with a dentist, making them more excited to go to their own pediatric dentist.
Don’t underestimate the power of seeing what goes into a dental appointment. Children’s minds are full of imagination, and if they believe something will make them feel nervous, then they will not want to go. Take them with you when you go, and show them it can be a positive experience. The more they see you going in, the more comfortable they are going to be when it comes time to go see their dentist, too.
