Is dental sedation safe for kids?

You might notice that your child is anxious about going to a dentist, the fear is normal even for adults. The dentist will use sedation to help your child relax during a dental procedure. Our dentists will discuss with you the types of sedation to be used to help your child to relax. Sedation calms the nerves and will help in relaxation

Oral sedation

This type of sedation does not put your child to sleep but assists them to relax. The dentist will ask your child to swallow a pill which will be ingested before the dental procedure begins. The child will relax and will not be anxious letting the dentist have a stress free time examining or treating the child

Nitrous Oxide

This is a sedation procedure that involves inhaling laughing gas by the use of a mask. The mixture of oxygen and nitrous oxide will help the child keep calm and reduce their anxiety levels. The dentist will have a stress-free time examining and treating the child, later oxygen will be used to eliminate any remains of the nitrous oxide gas.

Intravenous Sedation

This type of sedation helps in calming your child, talk to the child first about not fearing needles since the administration is through the use of needles. The needle is put in the vein behind the hand. This type of sedation almost puts the child to sleep, a dental procedure is done and the child might not remember anything. After the procedure the sedation starts diminishing, the child is given painkillers in case of any pain.
