Simple Ways to Prevent Dental Emergencies this School Year

Posted on 7/30/2016 by Fariba Mutschler
A red sign with white words on it saying emergency. As school starts up again, we are all in high gear trying to get ready for a perfect year. As you pick out the perfect school supplies, buy the best clothing, and start planning school lunches, don't forget about your child's oral health.

Before they head back to school is the perfect time to bring them in for a checkup.

We will ensure that all of their teeth are in good health, let you know about any decay or issues that we see beginning, and talk to your child to make sure he is practicing proper oral hygiene.

In addition to coming in to see us, here are a few other ways you can enhance your child's oral health this school year:

•  Choose healthy after-school snacks. Don't let them raid the pantry for chips, cookies, and candy. Have healthy options available such as raw fruit and vegetables with a healthy dip, such as peanut butter, ranch or hummus
•  lean lunch meats
•  low-fat cheese
•  or their favorite yogurt.
•  Avoid the consumption of sticky or chewy foods, especially while at school as those foods will stick to your child's enamel, putting him at risk for tooth decay.
•  See us for a customized mouth guard before your child plays any type of contact sport that could put the integrity of his teeth at risk.

These tips will help you get through the school year without dental emergencies that require time off of school and discomfort for your child. Contact our office for additional tips and to ensure that your child's health is in great condition!
